Personalized assessment

Where do your coverage and your savings stand?

The path adapts to your situation. Eight questions, two minutes, no personal data until you decide to provide it.

Before you start

What you get, and what it is not

This path produces a general picture of your situation. It is not a financial needs analysis, which requires a full interview and a review of your documents. It is an honest starting point: it shows you where to look.

Scope of services: Jean Carrière is a financial security advisor and a group insurance and annuity advisor (AMF certificate 259457). The investments referred to are segregated funds offered by insurers, along with annuities, RRSPs, TFSAs and FHSAs taken out with an insurer. Property and casualty insurance is not covered by these titles.

1. Which of these situations best describes you?

The rest of the path depends on your answer.

2. If your income stopped tomorrow, how long would your household hold out on current savings and coverage?

3. Does your life insurance come only from your employer?

Employer coverage generally ends when you leave the company.

4. Do you have disability insurance that belongs to you, outside of work?

5. And critical illness coverage — cancer, heart attack, stroke?

6. Do you save for retirement regularly?

7. How many people depend on your income?

8. Do you have a mortgage or significant debts?

2. How many months could you hold out without invoicing a single client?

3. Do you have disability insurance?

With no employer, no group plan takes over.

4. Do you have life insurance?

5. And critical illness coverage?

6. Do you set money aside for retirement?

7. How many people depend on your income?

8. How long have you been self-employed?

2. How many employees aged 18 and over have at least one year of uninterrupted service?

This is the count used to establish the VRSP obligation.

3. Do you already offer a savings plan with payroll deduction?

An RRSP or a TFSA with payroll deduction, offered to everyone, exempts you from the VRSP.

4. Do your employees have group insurance?

5. If a shareholder dies or becomes disabled, is an agreement funded?

6. And your own income protection, as an executive?

7. When does your plan renew?

8. How many employees does the business have in total?

2. Do your retirement income sources cover your current expenses?

3. Have you planned for the cost of a loss of autonomy or long-term care?

4. Do your investments include protection if markets fall?

Segregated funds, offered by insurers, include capital guarantees.

5. Is the transfer of your estate on death organized?

6. Are final expenses — funeral, tax on death — covered?

7. Which age bracket are you in?

8. Do you already work with an advisor?
